Specialist Equine Studies

Levels 1 and 2

The course is divided into modules which consist of:

  • Detailed illustrated text.

  • In-text questions to answer and in-text activities to complete as students work through their course material. Separate answer sheets are provided at the end of each module.

Over the course of the programme you will complete five work assignments.  Referring to the course material and your practical knowledge that you gain during your vocational study time on the yard, you complete the assignments at your own pace, with the staff's support and submit each in turn for marking and assessment.  Your work is assessed by qualified tutors from The Open College of Equine Studies, graded and returned to you with detailed feedback.

You are also provided with a Practical Skills Workbook, which details the practical skills needed. You will record attainment of each skill listed in the Skills Workbook and seek verification of the achievement by a qualified equine coach and NVQ assessor.

Horse Care and Management

Entry 1-3, Levels 1 and 2

Kingsleighs Equine Education Centre staff want the very best for their students and will go out of their way to ensure that this happens for you.

This course gives our students a chance to apply their unique skills and expand their horizons by expanding on previous experiences and prior knowledge as well as learning something new.

The Pony Club (PC) Efficiency Tests provide a staircase of knowledge and progression when taken in sequence, starting from ‘B’ and going all the way up to the prestigious ‘A’ Test.

The PC training structure encourages members to take the tests, which enable them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. The PC Efficiency Test levels are acknowledged as a high level of achievement worldwide and definitely worth attaining – if nothing else but as an additional valued qualification on your CV.

The level of knowledge required obviously increases as you work through the levels and once you reach C+ level the exam is split into two sections: C+ Horse Care and C+ Riding. You need to pass both before progressing to either B test Riding or B test Horse Care. Once you have passed your C+ there is also a  possibility that you can also do your UKCC level 1 coaching certificate and start assisting in instructing alongside the Horse Care and Management units.
